Cross-training for Writers: Pure Play
w/ Mayur Chauhan
Tuesdays beginning April 15, 2025
Zoom sessions will meet Tuesdays 10AM-12PM Pacific (April 15, April 22, April 29, May 6, May 13, May 20)
All meetings will be recorded and shared with registered participants for a few weeks afterwards.
Calling all writers.
Whether you’re a working writer seeking fresh inspiration, facing writer’s block (which is a myth by the way), between projects, looking for writing routine, someone who doesn’t think of themselves as a “writer,” (yet) this course will help you find your creative spark while meeting like-minded humans. Each session will provide writing-time, generative writing portals, opportunity to share your work in a supportive environment, and (optional but highly recommended) weekly reading and writing assignments.
Each week, we’ll dive into a new genre—micro/flash/fiction, poetry (yes, including haikus), essays, short-humor, hybrid and more— to invigorate and sharpen your writing skills. Think of it as creative cross-training—designed to keep your writing muscles engaged, flexible, and growing. P.S: No one will skip the leg days!
Each one of us is capable of writing in various forms and it’s indeed beneficial to switch between genres. Experimenting across genres builds versatility, makes writing more fun and unlocks new ideas while enhancing our voice.
By the end of the course, you’ll leave with a renewed confidence in your writing practice, work-in-progress pieces across genres, and meaningful connections with fellow writers. Otherwise, you won’t be allowed to leave.
Important Reminder: This course is pure play. So is writing. Come let's play.
Pricing: The following payment model is inspired by and borrowed from the payment model of Bayo Akomolafe’s class, We Will Dance With Mountains: Into the Cracks.
This workshop offers a sliding scale based on your relative financial standing. In an effort to reflect disparity in economic condition and access to wealth, the following payment system is designed for those with more wealth to help cover the costs of those with less access to wealth and resources. We trust your discernment of your current financial situation and how you fit into the global economic context.
As you decide what amount to pay, please consider your present-day financial situation governed by income, but also the following factors: historical discrimination faced by your peoples; your financial wealth (retirement/savings/investments); your access to income and financial wealth, both current and anticipated (how easily could you earn more income compared to other people in your community, country, and the world; are you expecting an inheritance); people counting on your financial livelihood including dependents and community members; the socio-economic conditions of your locale (relative to other places in your country and in the world); your relationship to food & resource scarcity.
