Do you have an idea for a book-length work of fiction? Maybe it’s something totally newfangled, or maybe it’s something you’ve been carrying in your chest for years, unsure of how to let it out. Would you like to get help generating the first 100ish pages of this idea in close collaboration with seven other mammals whose ideas are in the same seedling stage as yours?

Whereas our Body of the Book collaborations are about deepening finished drafts, think of Nascent as a series of guided creative sessions. More than a writing group, but less than your usual “workshop.”

Based off of Lidia Yuknavitch’s self-avowedly weird processes of making her own books, this group of mammals will work off of a specific writing portal each week designed to help them breathe life into the embers of their book idea.

The group will also meet (digitally) each week and have what we’re envisioning as a creative jam session on 2-3 peoples’ pages from the group. You will be provided with specific instructions on providing very brief written feedback; the core of this experience will be creative jam sessions that unfold verbally among the whole group.

Includes weekly portals and weekly group feedback based on a generative creative process invented by Lidia.

In order to apply, you’ll need to send us a five-sentence overview of the book you’re envisioning. Then we want you to sit down and write the first page of the book. Don’t overthink it. Don’t strive for perfection. Just crank it out; put your vision of the first scene down on a single page and send it to us.
