We have the great privilege of hosting Rayhané Sanders, literary agent at Massie and McQuilkin, for a 90-minute webinar on Publishing (with ample opportunity for Q&A) on Saturday March 15th, 2025, from 1:00PM to 2:30PM Pacific. (Yes, Rayhané represents our very own Lidia Yuknavitch.)

In addition to the seminar, Ms. Sanders is taking on twenty private manuscript consultations. Over the course of a 20-minute meeting, she will give you feedback from an agent’s point of view on the first 20 pages of your manuscript, submitted ahead of time. (Please note, Ms. Sanders comes from New York publishing, and is very encouraging but also very direct!) The deadline for submitting your 20 pages will be February 5th, and you’ll be provided with specific formatting guidelines. Consultations will be over Zoom, scheduled on Friday March 14th, Saturday March 15th, or Sunday March 16th.

The cost of the seminar is $150. The cost of a 1-on-1 consultation is $275. You can purchase both for $375 by selecting that option from the drop-down menu—a $50 discount!

  • Publishing Seminar on March 15th from 1:00PM to 2:30PM Pacific includes:

    • A Publishing Overview: what an agent does, the Big 5 Publishers vs. Indies, what the publication process looks like, the $$ of publishing, etc.

    • The dos and don'ts of The Query Letter & example query letters

    • Non-fiction Book Proposals, including example proposals

    • Q&A

If you have any questions, please contact Daniel Elder at registration@corporealwriting.com, and not Rayhané directly. If we need to relay a question to her, as her hosts, we are happy to do that. Now let's get those books published!

Rayhané Sanders began her publishing career at Newsweek Magazine. She then moved to book publishing, working for Penguin’s Dutton and Gotham Books and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt before moving to the agency side at WME, where she worked with bestselling and award-winning authors. She is a member of the American Association of Literary Agents (formerly AAR).

She has been a literary agent at premier boutique agency Massie & McQuilkin (whose clients include Roxane Gay, Jesmyn Ward, Kevin Young, Tom Perrotta, Dan Chaon, Kelly Link, and many more) for 10 years. She represents literary, historical, and upmarket book-club fiction; short story collections; narrative nonfiction; cultural histories; essay collections; and memoir. Her authors include Lidia Yuknavitch, Daisy Hernández, Matthew Gavin Frank, Te-Ping Chen, Janet Beard, and Tajja Isen, among others. Though quality of writing is most important, she is particularly interested in fresh voices telling fresh stories we haven’t heard before. You can find her Writer’s Digest profile here.

Rayhané is also an independent book editor, offering editorial services (from developmental edits and line edits, to query consultations, to everything in between) to non-clients on a per-project basis. You may reach her in that capacity at rss.editorial@gmail.com. Check out www.rayhanesanders.com for more information.
