The Color Palette of The Cosmos

A two-day generative online lab with Rios de la Luz
Saturday Sept 21st + Sunday 22nd 9am to 12pm Pacific, over Zoom
(both live sessions will be recorded and shared with participants for 30 days afterwards)

We are made of star stuff and clusters of stories.

This generative workshop will use journaling and fast-paced prompts to write around the concept of the colorful, the shimmering, the resplendent tapestry that comes from our memories. We will explore the liminality of nostalgia, the liminality of identity, the liminality of geography, dreamscapes, painting a story to our inner child, inner teen, and then focus on writing a vignette based around colors that follow you like neon dust in nebulous memory. This workshop is open to writers of all levels. Let's share imaginary space and create together!

Rios de la Luz is the author of the novella ITZÁ and the short story collections An Altar of Stories to Liminal Saints and The Pulse between Dimensions and the Desert. Her work has been featured in several anthologies, including Burn it Down (Seal Press), The Weird Sister Collection (Feminist Press), & Both Sides (Agora Books). She loves hosting writing workshops about magic & the body, lore around lived experiences, and the liminal. She currently lives in Oklahoma with her partner and son.

Pricing:

The following payment model is inspired by and borrowed from the payment model of Bayo Akomolafe’s class, We Will Dance With Mountains: Into the Cracks.

This workshop offers a sliding scale based on your relative financial standing. In an effort to reflect disparity in economic condition and access to wealth, the following payment system is designed for those with more wealth to help cover the costs of those with less access to wealth and resources. We trust your discernment of your current financial situation and how you fit into the global economic context.

As you decide what amount to pay, please consider your present-day financial situation governed by income, but also the following factors: historical discrimination faced by your peoples; your financial wealth (retirement/savings/investments); your access to income and financial wealth, both current and anticipated (how easily could you earn more income compared to other people in your community, country, and the world; are you expecting an inheritance); people counting on your financial livelihood including dependents and community members; the socio-economic conditions of your locale (relative to other places in your country and in the world); your relationship to food & resource scarcity.

Reviews for Rios’ previous Corporeal Writing workshop, Magic & the Body:

Writing with Rios, you can expect to explore different parts of your mind and spirit. Her writing prompts are unique and get you delving into spaces and subject matters you may never have thought to look at before. I left Rios' workshops with so much material to work with. These workshops are absolute gems! – Kim

An introspective generative workshop that plants within the magical seeds of creation. Rios's prompts are healing, as well as confronting. This workshop pushed me to reflect upon my life, to think of what magical, and which parts of me are strong, as well as to create. I had a great time in this space. – Brenda

Rios de la Luz's prompt-heavy writing workshop was exactly what I needed as I tried to channel the deep desire to write into poems that would sing. Her approach, which has you use what you already have within you, really helped illuminate what I wanted to say in my work about my body, spirituality, and connection to the larger world. Rios is accessible, supportive, and helpful in unlocking your creativity. – Olivia
